Cross Stitch #27 – Finishing a Pillow with Mitred Corners

Cross Stitch #27 – Finishing a Pillow with Mitred Corners

After several requests I have put together a slideshow of how I created my cross stitch pillow. Please see below for further details regarding the project + links to the 2 YouTube videos that helped me complete it.

Cross Stitch Design: 11.5″W x 9″H
These measurements were obtained by allowing a 1″ border around the entire design (measured at the widest point of the stitching) + a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Side Panels: 2.5″W x 15″H
The width measurements were calculated to allow for a 2″ finished border width + 1/4″ + 1/4″ seam allowances.
The length measurements were calculated by adding the height of the design (9″) + the width of the finished border (2″ x 2) + 1″ at each end to allow extra fabric for the mitred corners.
2 of these side panels were cut.

Top & Bottom panels 2.5″W x 17.5″H:
The width measurements were calculated to allow for a 2″ finished border width + 1/4″ + 1/4″ seam allowances.
The length measurements were calculated by adding the length of the design (11.5″) + the width of the finished border (2″ x 2) + 1″ at each end to allow extra fabric for the mitred corners.

The fabric I used for my pillow was just normal cotton non-stretch material.
All seams were stitched using a 1/4″ seam allowance.
